This Site is located within a commercial and industrial portion of North Kingstown, Rhode Island.
Site characterization activities were conducted prior to decommissioning and demolition of an outdoor electrical substation. Assessment activities were conducted to assess the nature and extent of potential PCB concentrations in bulk materials and soil.
Based on the results of the completed investigation, a Self-Implementing Cleanup was initiated at the Site. Remedial activities were conducted in accordance with approval by the U.S. EPA and the RI DEM.
Coneco directed and managed the removal and proper disposal of the identified PCB Remediation Waste (soil and concrete).
Following the completion of remedial activities, post-removal verification soil and concrete sampling was conducted in accordance with 40 CFR 761 Subpart O.
Verification sampling indicated that no concentrations of PCBs in excess of the applicable standard were identified in bulk materials at the Site. No further action was required for the unrestricted future use of the Site.
PCB Remediation Waste was transported off-Site for proper disposal in accordance with 40 CFR 761 Subpart D. Throughout Self-Implementing Clean-Up activities conducted at the Site, a total of 645.42 tons (586,745 Kg) of PCB Remediation Waste was sent off-Site for disposal.
