Underground Electrical Vault

This Site is located beneath a public sidewalk in downtown Providence, Rhode Island.  Assessment activities were conducted prior to the repair and reconfiguration of the Site for continued use.  Potential PCB Remediation Waste was characterized in accordance with 40 CFR 761 Subpart N.  Based on the results of the completed Site characterization, a Self-Implementing Cleanup was initiated at the Site.  Remedial activities were conducted in accordance with approvals issued by the U.S. EPA and RI DEM.

Coneco directed the removal and proper disposal of the identified PCB Remediation Waste.  Following the completion of removal activities, post-removal verification sampling was conducted in accordance with 40 CFR 761 Subpart O.  Certain bulk materials remaining at the Site are managed through a low occupancy usage deed restriction, secured access ways, and a continuous cap of concrete.  Continued compliance with the terms of the recorded low occupancy usage restriction and environmental land usage restriction is maintained through annual inspections and semi-annual groundwater monitoring.
